The New Testament and the People of God

SUMMARY: We have 6 weeks, and those weeks can be flexed a bit depending on the interest of the group. There are 3 major components of this book:
  1. The premise for studying. This is the first section outlining how to appraoch studying history, theology, etc. and leans towards a philosophical approach. If you don't like philosophy, don't worry: it is just contained to this first section.
  2. First century Judaism. This uses the approach outlined above to examine the Jewish nature that was the basis for Paul and Jesus' world.
  3. The first Christian century. This does the same thing as above, for Christianity.

So what is this book? This is a book by N.T. Wright, author of close to 90 books at this point. Back in the 1990s, he set out to write 2 books: one about Jesus, and another about Paul. He learned that this was too much of a task without writing about the Resurrection as well. Then, all of these books required quite a bit of background information that Wright wanted his readers to know, so he didn't have to include it in each of his volumes; so, this is the first book of his four part series: The New Testament and the People of God, which includes the background information helpful to enjoy his other works; also a faschinating read on its own.

I hope you enjoy this course as much as I have enjoyed preparing for it.
